Why I'm Excited For 2014

Happy New Year!

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas, filled with fun, food, and of course, books. So, now that it's 2014, there are new books to be read. With plenty of books being released this year, here are the three that I am eager to get my hands on!

3. The One by Kiera Cass
Publisher: HarperTeen
Release Date: May 6th
The final book in The Selection series will finially tell us how America's story will end. As the competition comes to a close, what is in store for her and Maxon?

2. Isla and the Happily Ever After by Stephanie Perkins
Publisher: Dutton
Pages: 352
Release Date: May 15th
Oh, how I love Stephanie Perkins. After spending years simply reading supernatural and dystopian books, Stephanie re-introduced me to contemporary novels with her fabulous plots and quirky characters. I'm super excited to read this latest love story.

But what am I looking forward to the most? You probably already know.

1. City of Heavenly Fire by Cassandra Clare

Publisher: Margaret K. McElderry
Pages: 733
Release Date: May 27th

Can I use this book as an excuse to take a month off? Because I'm pretty sure I'm going to need that long to recover from the emotional trauma caused by this book. Who is in danger? Who will lose their life in the battle against Sebastian? Will Magnus and Alec be reunited? These are important questions that I can't wait to find out the answers to. I'm excited and terrified for May 27th.

I have a feeling that May is going to burn a very big hole in my purse! What books are you eager to bury your nose in this year? Let me know!

Review: The Selection by Kiera Cass

Bookish Details:
Series: The Selection #1
Pages: 327
Publisher: HarperTeen
Release Date: April 24th 2012 (US) June 7th 2012 (UK)

Synopsis:
Thirty-five beautiful girls. Thirty-five beautiful rivals…

It’s the chance of a lifetime and 17-year-old America Singer should feel lucky. She has been chosen for The Selection, a reality TV lottery in which the special few compete for gorgeous Prince Maxon's love.

Swept up in a world of elaborate gowns, glittering jewels and decadent feasts, America is living a new and glamorous life. And the prince takes a special interest in her, much to the outrage of the others.

Rivalry within The Selection is fierce and not all of the girls are prepared to play by the rules. But what they don’t know is that America has a secret — one which could throw the whole competition… and change her life forever.

My Review:

It was ages ago when I first added The Selection to my To-Read list on Goodreads. The synopsis completely intrigued me and I couldn’t wait to read it! It’s safe to say that The Selection did not disappoint.

The Selection is a dystopian novel but not in the way most people think. I’d like to call is a sort of ‘Disney Dystopian’ if you catch my drift. It’s not all battles to the death, more like battles to the crown and the hot Prince. I think it's great to read a slightly lighter novel sometimes to have a break from all the serious and more murderous stories!

America is a really sweet character and you can't help but root for her throughout the book. I can't wait to see how her character develops.

The love triangle in The Selection is fabulous! At the start of the book I was like:

“You need to be with Aspen. I love Aspen.”

Then halfway through the book I was like:

“Forget Aspen, you need to be with Maxon. I love Maxon.”

Then at the end of the book like:

“Oh I just don’t know anymore!”

The plot is genius. It really is like a royal version of The Bachelor – I’ve never read anything like it!

This is a fun read with hints of something darker being about to take place. I can’t wait to see where the story goes in the sequel, The Elite, due out next year.

"Waiting On" Wednesday

This is a weekly meme hosted by Jill from Breaking the Spine. "Waiting on Wednesday" spotlights upcoming releases that I'm eagerly anticipating.

The Selection
By Kiera Cass
Publication Date: April 24th 2012

Goodreads Summary:
For thirty-five girls, the Selection is the chance of a lifetime. The opportunity to escape the life laid out for them since birth. To be swept up in a world of glittering gowns and priceless jewels. To live in the palace and compete for the heart of the gorgeous Prince Maxon.

But for America Singer, being Selected is a nightmare. It means turning her back on her secret love with Aspen, who is a caste below her. Leaving her home to enter a fierce competition for a crown she doesn't want. Living in a palace that is constantly threatened by violent rebel attacks.

Then America meets Prince Maxon. Gradually, she starts to question all the plans she's made for herself- and realizes that the life she's always dreamed of may not compare to a future she never imagined.

There's a lot of buzz about this book at the moment so I'm interested to see if it lives up to it's expectations! The Selection has also just been optioned for TV and has already cast it's three lead roles: Aimee Teegarden (from Disney's PROM), William Moseley (Peter Pevensie in The Chronicles of Narnia films) and Ethan Peck (Marshall in Gossip Girl). So with a TV show already in the making, I'm thinking The Selection is going to be HUGE.
